Gig 24th September

We played at the Library, in Leeds, well Hyde Park but who the hell has heard of hyde park? is it on the otley run, yes, is it near that pub that’s a boat but it’s a pub?, you’re not from round here are you?! anyway…

Gigs are great, gigs are fun, we get to play some tunes, strut our fucky stuff and get real reactions from real people, which in essence is the whole point.

So for those unlucky few who didn’t make it here’s a review

“a lively Leeds based alt/Indie rock 4 some, with the recent addition of lead guitarist Daniel Tinker, origami bullets has really forged their sound.

‘They bound pleasurably through a decent set of tunes to the enjoyment of a fairly forgiving crowd. “Keep smiling and no one will notice the mistakes,” the singer jokes with a broad grin. But the final song, and possible single, showed a darker side to their Foo Fighters inspired plectrums. The drums continue to pound throughout and the bass growls to chants of “We are so cold and lonely,” much to everyone’s delight’.
Reece Stables – Leeds Music Scene”

Next time be there to witness first hand the magestic magic of the bullets and you may here, see or feel something you like, take that sense home, spread it on toast and eat it for your lunch.

Prog Rock

This came up at practice the other night, what the hell do we sound like? what are we trying to sound like? I’ve always, rightly or wrongly said we’re alt or indie rock and, often at gigs we’re placed with bands that could probably fit into that category, but we’re always left feeling a little too loud, or aggressive for the crowd, like we don’t quite fit into that genre, then Tom reminded me of a review we had many moons ago, comparing us to a band called “Rush” now I’m not being rude but I’d never heard of them, luckily the internet provided me with a few of their greatest hits, and whislt it wasn’t all to my liking I could see what they were getting at, it would seem that the sound that we invariably create is Prog Rock.

In fear and dismay I tried to find some other bands who are of this era and fit this category that I’ve bearly ever heard of, bands like And So I Watch you from Afar, Audioslave, Metallica, are a few that came up in the list, which is quite good, but as we (at least I did) started out with idols like Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Smanshing Pumpkins, all from a grunge era we seem to have travelled a long way from our musical groundings.

I think it starts to sound like something to be worried about, but I’m not in the least bit worried, excited, I’m genuinly excited to be able to fit even slightly into a category, maybe we’ll be able to play a few gigs with some bands where the audience isn’t shocked and appauled by us… it’s a start at least.
